The term for the Board of Directors is two years (e.g., October 2008 to September 2010). ALLB has overlapping boards, so there is currently a group that has committed to serve for 2009 to 2011, and another overlapping board will be assembled in October of 2010 for 2010 to 2012, and so on. The board has many members that choose to continue their involvement on the board for multiple terms, so each board has a mix of veterans and rookies (baseball lingo).
The board needs members with a wide range of talents. Some of us are better with numbers and administration while others are better with facilities, sponsors, and fundraising. If you become a member of the board, it is in all of our interests to leverage each member’s talents. It is true that everyone pitches in on activities like getting the fields ready for the season and running the concession stand, but manual labor is not mandatory.
Depending on your role and the time of year, being a member of the board will require about 8-10 hours/month during the off season (July-March) and 10-20 hours/month during the season (April-June).
